There are 10,000 Canadian children waiting for mentors and these children are the tip of the iceberg. There is little that any individual could do to help these children, however, there is strength in numbers and a BBBS Alumni organization with thousands of members can have a powerful impact. How will Big Brothers Big Sisters Alumni help Canadian children? We are hopeful that once Alumni members are aware of the needs of the children they will spread the word within their community, promote mentoring in their workplace, re-volunteer as a mentor, help raise funds, and/or consider a personal donation when possible. The Alumni will focus on small ways that many can help rather than big ways that few can contribute. Is there a cost? It is free to be a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters Alumni. We are hopeful those alumni no longer involved with a member agency will consider an annual financial donation. How will an alumn benefit from this program? The most important benefit will be the pride of membership in an organization that is helping Canadian children. In addition, Alumni will be informed about simple ways they can help the children. Over time we will look at affinity type programs that will make the benefits even more tangible. Will you share my personal information? Big Brothers Big Sisters Alumni will be administered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada (BBBSC). BBBSC will share your information, with your permission, with the member agency or agencies where you volunteered or were a participant. Is there anyone not eligible to be a member? Membership is not available to individuals who have not had an association with Big Brothers Big Sisters or those not in good standing with their member agency when they ended their involvement. Who can I contact if I have questions? You can direct your questions to Monika Paquette, Alumni Director at alumni@bbbsc.ca or by phone at 1-800-263-9133 x 25.
