My story begins in June 1994 when my son Cassidy first met his Big Brother, Christian.  Cassidy was 8 years old and had been waiting for a "big brother" for over one and one half years. During the first meeting, Christian was somewhat nervous about meeting Cassidy.   

Once they met, they hit it off immediately.  I remember Christian saying he couldn't believe how well matched they were.  Chris made the committment to spend 2 - 3 hours per week doing things with Cassidy.  They loved to spend time outdoors.  One of their favorite outings was "bushwacking", where they go for walks and during winters, push one another into the snow.

At first, Chris would ask if I thought Cass liked doing things with him as Cass never said much to Chris about their outings.  I would indicate to Chris that Cass stood in front of the living room about a good 15 minutes before Chris picked him up watching for him each week.  Also, Cassidy would share stories of their outings with me during the week at the oddest times.  These indeed indicated to me that Cassidy enjoyed the times they had together. 

  Over the years, Chris and Cass have become the best of friends.  They continue to do things together most weeks.  Chris has been there to support Cassidy in all areas of his life (both through the good times as well as the difficult ones).  When I needed someone to share a value, I'd talk with Chris and know Chris spoke with Cassidy.

  Cassidy is now 22 years old and was fortunate to receive one of the CIBC scholarships.  Chris again came through by giving Cassidy a great recommendation for this program.  Since Cassidy received this scholarship, they continued with the Big Brother Big Sister Association so that Chris could continue to support Cass. This is the last year of the scholarship and they will need to step away from Big Brothers.  Chris has indicated that they will remain friends for life.   

   This summer Cassidy is getting married.  Once again Chris will continue to be by his side as he stands up for Cassidy as Cassidy's "Best Man".  Chris certainly has been the "Best Man" in Cassidy's life for over the past 14 years that they have been together.
